With Friends Like These . . .

CIC Ron Wilson, Kirk Lyons and their League of the South friends who currently control the SCV claim that they do not condone racist or neo-secessionist elements within our organization. We at Save the SCV realize that no group can be held responsible for the all of the words and deeds of all of its members.

However, email received by Save the SCV from individuals who express support for the current SCV leadership while at the same time condemning Save the SCV, suggests that CIC Wilson’s administration allows neo-secessionism and racism to flourish.

SCV members quoted below remain "in good standing" while other members, who have publicly expressed support for Save the SCV, have been suspended indefinitely. Here are excerpts from just a few of the messages received at Save the SCV (italics denote direct quotes):

  • Your (sic) a Southern Traitor and must be eliminated.

  • Screw you and your Pro-Northern , Pro-Ethnic bonding bullshit attitude. You want the SCV to be non-racist, I prefer to purge the South of Blacks, Mexicans, Arabs.. Your type of philosophy is what caused the South its problems in the first place. Why not move to the north, let your daughter's (sic) sleep with the Niggers, Mexicans and forget about the south. We (Proud SCV Members) do not need you, The south does not need you. We need a Pro-White , Pro-South group of leaders instead of traitors within the ranks like yourself and your group of followers. From: Racist White (name not given)

  • Say what you will about people like David Duke, but I’ll rub elbows with him... From: David W. Berryman, SCV member since 1994.

  • All the members I have met seem to have a respect for history and love of white southern heritage. ... I had my boss take down my Mississippi state flag from my office because some damn nigger thought it was a rebel flag. It was under this screw you for being white attack that I joined the SCV and found like minded people. From: Jeff Honea

  • We started as an academic society, and we became political. We are building a nation, one person at a time. From: Larry Salley, League of the South/SCV member and law partner of Kirk Lyons.

  • Get out of the SCV and join the Southern Poverty Law Center with it’s Queers, scalawags, and minority pandering. From: Mike Herring, Camp 1282.

  • Trying to drive SCV’ers who support the ideology of secession out of SCV is (like?) trying to drive Southerners out of the South...From: Michael Crocker, founding Commander of the Gen. David F. Jamison Camp 1954

  • While y’all are sitting at CW Roundtable meetings discussing how much you love Adolph Lincoln, the rest of SCV will be out fighting for our heritage.... From: Mark V. Brandon. SCV.

  • Your gutless, ass kissing of the NAACP and Nation of Islam sour the bile in my stomach! From: "Ben Miles"

  • What in the hell do you wanna go and join an SCV camp that worships the yankee flag for? From: Patrick Fields, Major Ross Camp, Charlotte, N.C.

Save the SCV remains convinced that the vast majority of SCV members are decent, patriotic American historians who are shocked by these and similar attitudes. We also believe that the longer the current SCV leadership remains in power, the more common in our organization extreme attitudes will become.

The struggle will continue between the Wilson/Lyons/League of the South crowd and elements of the MOS&B, Save the SCV, and other SCV members who support our constitution. The arguments and accusations are taking many twists and turns. Do not allow the issues to become blurred or side tracked because sooner or later we will all have to make the choice that is at the core of this controversy:

Shall we continue down our current path of partnerships with neo-secessionists like the League of the South and racists like the Council of Conservative Citizens in making our Confederate ancestors and their flags mere recruiting gimmicks for extremists to use in contemporary political warfare; OR, shall we work to create an SCV that will accurately represent the proud record of the Confederate soldier; an SCV that will protect and defend his history and symbols; an SCV that will make his story known in modern America through outreach, education, and pro-active, positive involvement in the American experience?
