When There Is No Substance, Bring Out The Boogieman

Lacking any substance in their argument to take the SCV down a destructive path of 21st century political activism, supporters of the SCV national leadership are once again hiding their true colors behind worn out fabrications and falsehoods.

It’s a predictable and anticipated maneuver that has consistently been employed in the past by Wilson, Lyons & Co. when they need to deflect attention away from their own unsavory purposes. Escalating their rhetoric and trotting out the Southern Poverty Law Center boogieman, they are once again attempting to hide their intention to redefine the purpose of the SCV.

The opposition — those supporting Wilson, Lyons & Co. — apparently do not care that many SCV leaders have active memberships in modern-day secessionist organizations and racist groups. They only care that the SCV membership and the general public are now becoming aware of those ties. Nor does the opposition mind that some SCV camps have banned the United States flag and the Pledge of Allegiance from meetings and events. They only mind that someone has uncovered their secret!

Allen Trapp, the SCV's Army of Tennessee Commander, trumpeted this concern this fall when he stated that it would be a PR nightmare if the flag and pledge issues became general knowledge. But, he expressed no concern at all about banning the American flag and pledge.

The opposition’s attacks charging the SSCV and individual supporters of being in league with the SPLC are nothing more than a smokescreen. They can offer no legitimate proof for one good reason: No relationship exists. Save the SCV has no partnership with any external group. From day one our goals have been clearly stated and clearly publicized. And, we have always been available to talk to any representative of the legitimate press – just like all honorable people with nothing to hide.

Save the SCV is a grassroots movement of SCV members, primarily at the local levels, who reject the new direction in which the national SCV leadership has turned. We trust your ability to determine who is being honest in their stated goals and objectives. We absolutely encourage you to investigate both sides.

Take your time and dig deep. Go to your local library and the Internet. See what information is already public knowledge and easily available about the League of the South, the Council of Conservative Citizens, Kirk Lyons, Leonard "Flagpole" Wilson and your other "leaders." Simply run an Internet search using these groups and names. Find out who they are and what they represent. Conduct your own research. We did, and that is why the SSCV exists today.

We want you to study the issues and reach your own conclusions. The other side does not. They tell you what to believe and what to do, and they even want you to sign petitions relying on their selective research and false "facts."

We are confident that once you cast aside the escalated rhetoric and the tired old boogieman, you will enthusiastically support the position of the SSCV. And here’s the big secret: The opposition — your national "leaders" -- are so shrill and heavy-handed because they are afraid that you will, too.
