Mr. Wilson: What exactly IS the Emergency? CIC Ron Wilson is trying to declare a special convention of the SCV per Article V, Section 2 (reproduced here in its entirety) of the SCV Constitution: The Commander-in-Chief or, in the event of his absence, death or resignation, the Lieutenant Commander-in-Chief, at the request of a majority of Camps, or of the General Executive Council, shall convene the Confederation in special meeting, if he deems the emergency sufficient. Special meetings of a Division shall likewise be called by the Division Commander at the request of a majority of the Camps of his Division or in any emergency which he may deem sufficient. The SCV’s Constitutional requirement is clear: CIC Wilson must declare that "the emergency" is "sufficient" to justify a special convention before he is authorized to "convene" such a convention. Now, there is no doubt that CIC Wilson will get a "majority of Camps" to request a special convention. This of course is the same special convention that the GEC voted against at the October meeting. Mr. Wilson will likely obtain his majority by using the following arithmetic: the number camps that are controlled by Wilson & Kirk Lyons and the League of the South, plus, arm-twisting of camp commanders by some division and brigade commanders, plus, letters from defunct and inactive camps requesting a special convention, plus, (if necessary) another round of camp suspensions which would reduce the number of camps needed for approval, adds up to: instant majority! After that, all the CIC would need is the emergency that our constitution requires where it reads, "the emergency." So, Mr. Wilson: what exactly is the emergency that you are about to declare? Is it the lack of "Electronic Voting" at our conventions? That’s what S.C. Division Commander Robert Roper says the emergency is on his division’s website. Mr. Roper also casually mentions that "there may possibly be other proposed amendments that could be considered at the special convention...." And what are those "may possibly be...could be considered" amendments? Purging GEC members that CIC Wilson can’t control? Packing the GEC with more Wilson appointees? Allowing Mr. Wilson to run for a second term? Those issues are what Frank Conner of Georgia says the emergency is. If those issues are emergencies now, when did they become emergencies? They weren’t emergencies before or during the Asheville convention. At that time they were proposals. They weren’t even the first order of business, and they were defeated or withdrawn. They weren’t emergency issues at the last GEC meeting as the CIC didn’t even bring them up for discussion. Mr. Wilson’s proposal for an emergency convention was discussed and rejected by the GEC. There was apparently no emergency at that time. If a real emergency situation has developed since the recent GEC meeting, why hasn't the GEC been notified and asked to address the issue? Is it because there is no real emergency? So, what is really going on? Mr. Conner’s memo in support of the special convention, has been widely circulated. In that memo Connor and others state that, 1) Confederate heritage is under attack, 2) CIC Wilson has been defeated on two occasions in his attempt to rewrite the SCV constitution, and 3) there is a power-struggle going on for control of the SCV. Apparently Frank Conner, Division Commander Roper, and Ron Wilson all agree with Save the SCV on what the so-called emergency is: Ron Wilson is running out of time. CIC Wilson needs two more years without serious opposition to turn the SCV into a modern Political Action Committee, sell Elm Springs, break with the MOS&B, and finalize the SCV partnership with the League of the South. To do this, he needs to arrive at the Dalton convention next July with the constitutional authority to be reelected and to purge the Confederation of his remaining opposition: hence the emergency convention. For those of us who oppose the current SCV leadership, our course is clear: Wilson’s agenda must be defeated at the special convention in February. Wilson, Kirk Lyons and their thugs will use every trick in the book to exclude their opposition from the special convention and to then rewrite our constitution.SCV members who are considering letting their memberships lapse in 2004 must renew. Those who have resigned must rejoin and convince others to do likewise. Compatriots in camps that are controlled by Wilson’s extremists should transfer their memberships to other camps. All camps opposing the "emergency" convention must vote to send a letter to the GEC and to CIC Wilson clearly expressing opposition.Save the SCV will demand that a comprehensive list of camps that have submitted letters either for or against the convention be published so that compatriots will know what action their camp commanders have taken. In order to prevent the filing of fraudulent letters, the status of each and every SCV camp in the Confederation must be accounted for: "yea," "nay" or inactive. In recent weeks, opposition to Wilson’s regime has grown stronger while his League of the South radical friends have caused problems in several divisions. The Oklahoma division is in open opposition to Wilson’s policies. Three LoS members in Colorado have resigned as SCV camp commanders. Tennessee compatriots are calling for the resignation of Division Commander Skip Earle who is a hand-picked Wilson "Field Rep." There is rebellion against Florida’’s Division Commander Adams for his heavy-handed methods. Texas remains firmly opposed to Wilson. Army of Tennessee Commander Alan Trapp has condemned Wilson’s emergency convention front-man, Frank Connor. Virginia Division Commander Bowling was caught-up in his own lies when he tried to smear Save the SCV. Long-time Alabama SCV/MOS&B leader Perry Outlaw has filed formal charges against the CIC. Mr. Wilson knows that time is not on his side. The future of the SCV will be decided in the next several months. We must act. For the Confederate veterans who returned to their homes after the war and helped build the greatest nation on earth; for their sons and grandsons who were given the honor and responsibility of bringing the true story of the Confederacy to future generations; and for our own sons and grandsons, the SCV deserves your support, your loyalty, and your courage in returning the organization to its original mission. |
